CEM I (Portland Cement)
CEM I, also known as Portland cement, is the most commonly used type of cement. It’s composed primarily of clinker, gypsum, and a small amount of other materials such as limestone. CEM I is known for its high strength and versatility, making it suitable for a wide range of applications, including general construction, foundations, and precast concrete.
CEM II (Portland Composite Cement)
CEM II is a blend of clinker and other supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs). These SCMs can include fly ash, slag, silica fume, or other pozzolanic materials. The addition of SCMs enhances the properties of the cement, such as improved workability, durability, and reduced environmental impact. CEM II is commonly used in applications similar to CEM I, but its specific composition can vary depending on the type.
CEM III (Blast Furnace Cement)
CEM III is a type of cement that contains a significant proportion of granulated blast furnace slag (GBFS). GBFS is a byproduct of the iron and steel industry. CEM III offers excellent long-term strength, improved resistance to chemical attack, and reduced heat of hydration. It is often used in aggressive environments, such as marine structures, wastewater treatment plants, and industrial facilities.
CEM IV (Pozzolanic Cement)
CEM IV is a cement type that incorporates pozzolanic materials, such as volcanic ash, calcined clay, or other natural or artificial pozzolans. These materials react with calcium hydroxide in the presence of water to form cementitious compounds, enhancing the strength and durability of the cement. CEM IV is commonly used in areas with high sulfate or chloride content in the soil or water, where resistance to chemical attack is crucial.
